Trade report, 1 October 2026: one basket, held overnight

One SP500 + NDX basket, bought on the morning of 1 October and closed the next afternoon: SP500 +22.9 points, NDX +0.9 points. For almost all of the 30 hours the basket sat below its entries; it came back only minutes before the exit.

Platform time UTC+3. Every entry, exit and result comes from the trading account's closed-position history. Returns for XFX investors are produced by Darwinex's risk engine and differ from these numbers — see the last section.

The trades, on the charts

Two long positions in one index basket: SP500 and NDX, bought together in the European morning, held overnight and closed together the next afternoon. One chart per instrument, the smaller result first. The green triangle is the entry, the green dot the exit (closed up), and the shaded band the time the position was held.

NDX on 1 October 2026: bought at 30,840.4 at 08:51 and closed at 30,841.3 at 15:33 on 2 October (+0.9 points)

SP500 on 1 October 2026: bought at 7,713.3 at 08:51 and closed at 7,736.2 at 15:33 on 2 October (+22.9 points)

The loss, first

The loss, first: none on 1 October; the smallest result was NDX +0.9 points after 30 hours

None on 1 October: two positions, two closed up. With no loser to show, the smallest result goes first: the NDX leg of the basket, bought at 30,840.4 at 08:51 and closed at 30,841.3 at 15:33 the next afternoon — +0.9 points after 30 h 42 min, with a night of financing charged against it. Its SP500 twin in the same basket closed +22.9 points.

What the record shows: a day without a loss is not a day without risk. On both charts the basket spent almost the whole 30 hours below its entries — at the low, around 18:05 on 1 October, the reference lines stood about 88 points under the SP500 entry and about 545 points under the NDX entry. Both lines climbed back above the entries only in the 15:30 bar on 2 October, minutes before the exit. The record shows where the basket went, not only where it ended.

What happened, in order

  • 08:51 — index basket: bought NDX at 30,840.4 and SP500 at 7,713.3, 32 seconds apart. NDX traded above its entry for about half an hour; then both indices fell through the European morning.
  • 16:30 — US open. Both index futures dropped sharply in the first half hour and made their lows of the two days around 18:05, then recovered part of the fall into the US close.
  • 23:00 — US close. The basket was kept open overnight; the lines break around 00:00–01:00, the futures' daily trading pause.
  • 2 October, night and morning — both indices rose slowly but stayed below the entries.
  • 2 October, 15:30 — US jobs report for September. Both index futures jumped in the 15:30 bar, above the basket's entries for the first time since the morning before.
  • 2 October, 15:33:53–15:33:56 — basket closed: SP500 at 7,736.2 (+22.9 points), NDX at 30,841.3 (+0.9 points), after 30 h 42 min.

The basket paired SP500 and NDX at 1.0 : 0.2 lots.

Market context

On Thursday 1 October the S&P 500 recovered from a morning loss to close 0.19 % higher at 7,666.45; the Nasdaq Composite added 0.04 % to 26,871.60 and the Dow 0.04 % to 50,926.56, while the Russell 2000 gained about 0.35 %. The 10-year Treasury yield eased to about 5.24 %, after a 24-year high earlier in the week. Accenture jumped after its results. The September jobs report followed on Friday 2 October at 15:30 platform time: payrolls rose by 29,000, against about 90,000 expected, and the unemployment rate rose to 4.2 %. Sources at the end.

Costs of the day

Commission on both positions and one night of financing on both legs; no dividend adjustments. Costs took 9.6 % of the day's gross trading result — almost all of it the night: financing was about ten times the commission. They are part of the record, so they are part of every report.

What XFX investors saw

DARWIN XFX replicates this account's positions through Darwinex's risk engine, which targets a monthly value-at-risk of 6.5 % (95 %) and scales position sizes accordingly. An investor's result for 1–2 October is therefore the change in the DARWIN's quote, published on the XFX page at Darwinex, not the figures above. That is also why these reports are written in points, not currency: points describe the trading; the DARWIN's quote describes the investment.

About the charts

Entry and exit prices and times are the account's real fills. The market lines are public reference series at 5-minute closes, via Yahoo Finance: the Nasdaq-100 E-mini futures (shifted down by 261.4 points) and the S&P 500 E-mini futures (shifted down by 53.0 points). Each shift is the average gap between the reference series and the account's CFD price at that instrument's fills, so that the line sits on the same price scale as the fills. The charts show 07:45 on 1 October to 17:45 on 2 October; the gap in the lines around 00:00–01:00 is the futures' daily trading pause. The shape of the days is the market's; the levels of the fills are the account's.
