Trade report, 12 October 2026: two legs, one exit

One SP500 and NDX basket, bought together at 18:55 and closed together 55 minutes later: SP500 −13.5 points, NDX −74.0 points. Both legs closed down; the loss, first, with entry and exit charts.

Platform time UTC+3. Every entry, exit and result comes from the trading account's closed-position history. Returns for XFX investors are produced by Darwinex's risk engine and differ from these numbers — see the last section.

Two long positions, one on each index, opened together and closed together. One chart per instrument. The green triangle is the entry, the red dot is the exit (closed down), and the shaded band is the time the position was held, between the entry and the exit price.

The loss, first

The loss, first: SP500 −13.5 points, with its paired NDX leg −74.0 points

Both positions of the day closed down. They were one basket: NDX bought at 30,735.0 at 18:55:55 and SP500 at 7,814.6 eight seconds later, 2 h 26 min after the US open; both were closed within three seconds of each other at 19:50 — SP500 at 7,801.1 (−13.5 points), NDX at 30,661.0 (−74.0 points). On the charts, the entries came after a rise from the afternoon low, and the indices turned down within minutes of them.

What the record shows: this was a short basket, under an hour, closed as a whole rather than leg by leg. The 8 October report showed the other shape of a loss — one leg held overnight. Darwinex's statistics for XFX (66 % winning trades over more than 8,000 trades) include days like this one; they are reported the same way, first.

What happened, in order

  • 16:30 — US open. Both index futures fell in the first half hour of the cash session, then recovered through the afternoon.
  • 18:55–18:56 — bought NDX at 30,735.0 and SP500 at 7,814.6, as one basket, near the top of that recovery.
  • 19:00–19:50 — the market turned down and both legs moved below their entries.
  • 19:50 — both closed, three seconds apart: SP500 −13.5 points, NDX −74.0 points. Nothing was held overnight.

Market context

On Monday 12 October the S&P 500 closed at 7,807 (−0.06 %) and the Nasdaq Composite at 27,245 (−0.44 %), while the Dow gained 0.38 %: technology lagged all day as semiconductors pulled back (the SOX index −2.7 %), with memory-chip stocks lower after reports of a new Chinese memory design. Nine of the eleven S&P sectors finished higher, led by energy. Brent crude rose to $106.65 (+1.84 %) and WTI to $93.74 (+2.06 %) after attacks on Saudi Arabian airports; the US bond market was closed for Columbus Day, and investors were waiting for Wednesday's CPI report. Costs of the day

Commission on the two positions; no overnight financing and no dividend adjustments. On a losing day costs add to the loss: they increased the day's gross trading loss by 0.7 %. They are part of the record, so they are part of every report.

What XFX investors saw

DARWIN XFX replicates this account's positions through Darwinex's risk engine, which targets a monthly value-at-risk of 6.5 % (95 %) and scales position sizes accordingly. An investor's result for 12 October is therefore the change in the DARWIN's quote, published on the XFX page at Darwinex, not the figures above. That is also why these reports are written in points, not currency: points describe the trading; the DARWIN's quote describes the investment.

About the charts

Entry and exit prices and times are the account's real fills. The market lines are public reference series at 5-minute closes, via Yahoo Finance: the S&P 500 E-mini futures (shifted down by 50.5 points) and the Nasdaq-100 E-mini futures (shifted down by 231.8 points). Each shift is the average gap between the reference series and the account's CFD price at that instrument's fills, so that the line sits on the same price scale as the fills. The charts show 14:00–22:00, the part of the day around the trades. The shape of the day is the market's; the levels of the fills are the account's.
